When should I get a Mammogram?
Most physicians recommend women 40 years of age receive a screening mammogram every one to two years. Beginning at age 50, mammography should be performed every year. Patients at high risk for breast cancer (especially those with family history) should consult their physician about beginning annual mammograms prior to age 40.
Do I need a referral (prescription) to receive a mammogram?
No, Russellville Hospital will allow women to simply call and make an appointment for a mammogram without requiring a referral from a physician, however you must have a current family physician to receive the results of the test. If an abnormalty is found your physician will be able to direct you in proper follow up.
